About Us

Healthy Students Make Great Students

LearntobeHealthy.org is an online health science learning site designed to help educators and parents communicate important health concepts to students. The site contains comprehensive lesson plans, interactive games and activities, webquests and more. The goal of the site is to inspire students – and their families – to make healthy choices that will last a lifetime.

Who We Are

The Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center (Byrnes HEC) developed LearntobeHealthy.org with underwriting support from Highmark Foundation. The Byrnes HEC, a non-profit organization located in York, PA, is a recognized leader in the development of innovative, high quality, effective health education programs for students of all ages. Byrnes HEC's mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages to make healthy choices. Our programs feature a variety of multimedia experiences along with high-tech exhibits and unique hands-on displays. We use technology to optimize learning opportunities. Since 1995, more than 600,000 school students throughout South Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland have visited the Byrnes HEC to better understand the human body and develop healthy lifestyles. In addition to LearntobeHealthy.org and our on-site programming, Byrnes HEC offers health education programming for adults through Wellness Works and community outreach programming on several health education topics.

After visiting the Byrnes Health Education Center, former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop said, "You have finally found a way to put pizzazz into prevention."

Sponsorship Opportunities

We encourage organizations who want to promote healthy living to partner with us and become sponsors. With additional funding, we can continue to add activities and extend our reach to a larger audience. The more teachers, parents and students experience the site, the greater the exposure of the sponsorship.

Through our membership in the National Association of Health Education Centers (over 30 centers nationwide), we can provide sponsors with additional exposure at other members' health education sites, opening lines of communication and partnership. NAHEC's mission is to promote the development and advancement of health education centers across the United States, providing every student in the country access to a Health Education Center.

Where We're Going

We will continue to develop new programs, activities, and games to expand our site. Our hope is to encourage instructors and students to return again and again for new and exciting learning experiences. As new technologies become available, we will use them to build new areas of value and interest for our audiences. Check back often as we expand our kids and teens sites with more health education activities!
