LearntobeHealthy.org Receives Award for Dental Activities

The Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center’s eLearning initiative, LearntobeHealthy.org, has been named recipient of the 2007 DENTSPLY/Harold Slavkin Oral Health Science Education Award. This award is given to a K–12 teacher who has demonstrated creative, innovative use of science curricula to teach oral health and to impart excitement about oral health and oral-health research.
Byrnes HEC staff members Heather Rotella, instructional designer, and Jennifer Eiben, project manager, are co-recipients of the award, which is administered by the Friends of the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The Friends, a non-profit organization, is a coalition of individuals, institutions, and corporations who understand the critical importance of dental, oral, and craniofacial health to the well-being of society. The mission of the NIDCR, Bethesda, MD, is to improve oral, dental, and craniofacial health through research, research training, and the dissemination of health information. Research increasingly points to oral health as being integral to general health, encompassing more than healthy teeth and aiding in disease prevention.

DENTSPLY International, the award sponsor, designs, develops, manufactures, and markets a broad range of products for the dental market. Headquartered in York, PA, it is the largest professional dental products company in the world. The award will be presented Monday, December 10, at the FNIDCR Annual Gala Awards Dinner at the National Press Club, Washington, DC.
