Tips to Help Students Achieve their 2008 Goals
- Set realistic goals. A vague resolution may be too easy, while unrealistic goals can be discouraging and ultimately lead to failure.
- Write it down and post it somewhere so you will see it regularly.
- Tell friends and family - they will hold you accountable.
- Track your progress by keeping a journal.
- Don't be too hard on yourself. If you slip up, don't give up. Keep trying!

Easter Eggs already?!?!
Yes…We know it is only January, but we want to talk about Easter eggs. No, not the colorful, edible treat. am talking about the virtual Easter eggs found on the kids site of LearntobeHealthy.org. For those of you who, like me, are only wanna-be techies, I’ll explain. They are fun things that you hunt for (as in an Easter egg hunt – hence the name) such as a graphic that twinkles, opens, bounces, reveals, or surprises. These are things outside of the normal functionality of the site.
One example can be found in the hallway of the Susan Byrnes School on the kids site. Walk right until you see the Janitor’s closet. You can click and it will actually open to reveal cleaning supplies. I’ll bet you didn’t expect that on a health education site! There are 18 Easter eggs in all. How many can YOU find?

| Are You Committed to Your New Year's Resolutions?
There’s just something about the New Year that inspires a fresh start; a clean slate; a chance to set new goals. On January 1st, many of our LearntobeHealthy.org members of all ages made a vow to improve themselves in some way. Some are on the path to success while others may already have forgotten their promises. So, what is the trick? Support! Making a change is hard, so we can’t go it alone.
Whether your students are trying to get more physical activity, eat more fruits and vegetables, improve their grades, or be more kind to a sibling, they can benefit from the supportive environment of the classroom. Now is a good time to remind students of their resolutions and help them remain passionate about change! Encourage them to share their resolutions with the family so parents and guardians can help keep students on track. See the classroom tips for more concrete ideas on how to keep kids working towards their goals. |

Free Government Resources
Since the political world is abuzz with the presidential race, we at LearntobeHealthy.org wanted to examine what the government gives schools as classroom tools. As you may know, the US government offers many useful, and FREE, tools you can use in the classroom. Check out the Federal Resources for Educational Excellence website for more information. They have over 70 resources for health education, and countless other topics. | |
